Sharks need another, and a few more call ups, get OT win over Jets

In San Jose, the Sharks’ Timo Meier scored in extra time for a 2-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night.

The Sharks were without their head coach and seven players, all placed on COVID19 protocols.

Coach Bob Boughner, Andrew Cogliano, Jonathan Dahlen and Matt Nieto, Erik Karlsson, Jake Middleton, Radim Simek and Marc-Edouard Vlasic were placed in protocol.

“It was a tremendous effort,” Sharks assistant coach John MacLean said. “[The players] had great energy and they all knew they had to play.”

James Reimer made 34 saves in the San Jose win.

The Jets dropped to 4-2-2.

“We wish their players the best, but I think it’s kind of the new normal that we’re going to have to get used to,” the Jets’ Adam Lowry said. “Guys are going to have to step up when other guys are out of the lineup. Guys are going to kind of have to deal with the uncertainty a little bit.”

Kyle Connor tied the game for the Jets, late in the third period to force the extra session.

Tomas Hertl scored for San Jose in regulation.

Connor Hellebuyck made 34 saves in the Jets loss.
