SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San Jose Sharks returned to the SAP Center for game five, with a much needed win to continue to play and they were able to come up with a 5-2 win over the Golden Knights.

This game saw the Sharks score early, and continue to hold the lead throughout the game.

Only 1:16 into the first period, Tomas Hertl, took the puck through traffic to earn a wrist shot past Marc-Andre Fleury in the Las Vegas net. Then, at the eleven minute mark, the Sharks Logan Couture put another shot on the board. Las Vegas’s Reilly Smith gave the Golden Knights their first goal of the night on a power play.

In the second period, Barclay Goodrow created a screen in front of Fleury, when Justin Braun fired a shot toward the net, and was lightly redirected into the opposite side of the net by Goodrow at 7:38.  That would be the last goal as the teams go to intermission with the Sharks leading 3-1.

During a Las Vegas power play, Jonathan Marchessault shot the puck through traffic to bring the Golden Knights to within a goal with over eight minutes remaining in regulation. Following a plea with officials for an extended penalty for high sticking on Couture, the Sharks found a way to score on their power play goal. The high stick ultimately knocked out a couple of his teeth. The Sharks extended their lead to 4-2 again with over four minutes remaining.

The Golden Knights pulled Fleury in favor of another skater with just under two minute remaining, but a loose puck allowed an empty net goal by Joe Pavelski.

Martin Jones made a much better appearance in the net this night, as he made 27 saves for the win.

Las Vegas still leads the series 3-2 as they go back to Vegas for an Easter Sunday match.  The Golden Knights will look for a win at home to advance in the series.
