SAN JOSE, Calif. – Mikael Granlund and Nino Niederreiter each scored twice for the Nashville Predators in a 6-2 win against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center on Thursday.
Granlund also had an assist, and Matt Duchene had three assists for the Predators (27-22-6), who have won seven of their last 10 (7-3-0). Juuse Saros made 22 saves.
Nico Sturm and Martin Kaut scored, and James Reimer made 24 saves for the Sharks (18-29-11), who have lost seven of their last 10 (3-5-2).
Niederreiter gave the Predators a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 6:24 of the first period. Niederreiter’s shot from the right face-off circle redirected off of Sharks defenseman Mario Ferraro’s stick on its way into the net.
Granlund made it 2-0 Nashville at 1:28 of the second period. Philip Tomasino intercepted the puck in the neutral zone and attempted to score himself before Granlund scored on the rebound.
Sturm cut Nashville’s lead to 2-1 at 8:37 with a short-handed goal. Sturm beat Mattias Ekholm to a loose puck in the neutral zone and scored over Saros’ shoulder on a breakaway.
Granlund scored again to make it 3-1 at 13:34 when Tomasino set him up with a backhand pass.
Yakov Trenin made it 4-1 at 19:31 with a short-handed goal. Cole Smith stole the puck at the San Jose blue line and passed to Trenin in front for the goal.
Kaut made it 4-2 at 50 seconds of the third period when he was set up by Tomas Hertl. It was Kaut’s first goal as a member of the Sharks.
Niederreiter made it 5-2 at 10:48 when he scored on a backhand shot, and Tommy Novak scored on the power play at 14:00 for the 6-2 final.
