Sharks end skid with win over Kraken

In San Jose, James Reimer made 39 saves and the Sharks defeated the Seattle Kraken, 3-1, on Sunday night.

“We found a way,” San Jose head coach Bob Boughner said. “I don’t think it was our best performance by any means, but at this time of year, to get two points and find a way, that’s the biggest thing.”

The Sharks improved to 24-23-6, after a 1-4-4 stretch.

“These games are too important at this time of year, and I understand fatigue,” Boughner said. “We didn’t make it easy on ourselves. We had terrible puck management (to start) and I don’t think we were playing hard enough. We were standing around watching in the first period. But we adjusted, and that’s a good thing.”

Morgan Geekie was the lone striker for the Kraken.

“We got no reward for our effort tonight,” Seattle head coach Dave Hakstol said. “So those are things you have to handle and you have to overcome. I thought we continued to go; we lost our momentum after the second goal against. We didn’t really get it going again in the second period.”

Scott Reedy and Jonah Gadjovich scored for the Sharks, both goals were NHL firsts.

“It’s an emotional moment for me, just thinking about everything that went into it and getting to this point,” Reedy said. “In this building, too, in front of all the fans. And my family is watching back home. It’s actually my mom’s birthday, so [it’s a] little birthday present for her. Special moment.”

The Kraken dropped to 16-34-5 with their seventh straight loss.

“It definitely weighs on you, for sure,” Geekie said. “I think I’ve kind of established myself as far as growing my game and turning into a 200-foot player. If I can continue to play both ends of the rink, and the chances keep coming, I think it’s going to keep going the way it’s going.”

Ryan Dzingel‘s goal gave San Jose a 1-0 lead.

Philipp Grubauer made 21 saves in the Seattle loss.

“We did a lot of great things, it was just unfortunate bounces that cost us the game,” Grubauer said. “Sometimes I feel like that’s the way the season has been going so far.”
