In Calgary, the San Jose Sharks hit for three goals in the third period to break out from a 1-1 with the Flames in a 4-1 win on Tuesday night.
Adin Hill made 37 saves for the Sharks win.
Andrew Mangiapane was the lone striker for the Flames.
“I think we’ve built a foundation, we’ve built an identity and something that we can go back to and rely on that’s going to give us success,” Calgary’s Milan Lucic said. “That’s something we need to do on puck drop on Thursday night.”
Calgary dropped to 7-2-3.
Logan Couture started the third period outburst to make it 2-1 to San Jose.
“We’re tied on the road against a team that hasn’t lost in I think three weeks at home,” Couture said. “It didn’t matter how we got there. Just go out there and try to make a push in the third, and I thought we did. The third might’ve been our best period. We had three or four good shifts in a row and got a lucky bounce on my goal. After that we defended hard, and guys sacrificed and we found a way to win.”
San Jose’s Alexander Barabanov scored in the middle frame for a 1-0 lead.
Tomas Hertl and Jonathan Dahlen each had late empty-net goals for the 4-1 final.
“They get a bounce in the third and were able to shut us down for the rest of the third,” Lucic said. “It [stinks] losing that one because you know you play so hard in the second and only get one out of there, and sometimes when you let teams hang around that’s what happens.”
Jacob Markstrom made 22 saves in the Flames loss.
“I think they came out and we had the better of them in the second, and I’m sure we thought we could continue that, and they came out with a little more jump (in the third),” Calgary head coach Darryl Sutter said. “Who scored the winner there, was it Couture? Logan and Burns. … Those guys played a lot and were probably better than our top guys tonight.”
