Sharks edge Ducks in overtime, 2-1

In San Jose Tuesday night, Marc-Edouard Vlasic scored 1:24 into extra time to give the Sharks a 2-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks.

“It was a big goal for us,” Sharks coach Peter DeBoer said. “He put his head down, took it to the net. We found a way. That’s a tough game to be 1-1 in overtime after carrying a lot of the play. It could be disheartening, but our group found a way to stick with it. It’s a big two points.”

Joe Pavelski was the lone goal scorer in regulation for the Sharks whom improved to 4-3-0.

Martin Jones made 19 saves in the win for San Jose.

The Ducks had a problem in the crease when Jonathan Bernier left the game in the second period for a pulled muscle.

John Gibson came in in relief.

“He pulled a muscle in the first period,” Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said .

Ryan Getzlaf also left in the second period with an upper body injury.

Chris Wagner scored the Ducks’ goal in regulation as Anaheim fell to 2-3-2 on the season.

“I liked our game. I liked the four lines. I liked our 5-on-5 game. I thought we should have had more than one goal, but credit to them and [Ducks goaltender John Gibson]. I thought he made some big saves. It was a nice response game after the Detroit game,”  DeBoer said after the game.
