Sharks drop OT decision to Anaheim PHN's Best Shots of the Game

SAN JOSE –  The Sharks surrendered a late goal to the Anaheim Ducks’ Chris Kreider  with less than a minute left in regulation to force extra time.

Leo Carlsson scored 46 seconds into the extra session for a 7-6 win for the Ducks.

“Super fun hockey game,” Carlsson said. “Back and forth. Love a comeback win, so it was great.”

It was the second straight overtime loss for the Sharks.

“(Our) winning habits are not good,” Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky said. “Our whole game wasn’t great, let’s be honest. So, we got to keep working with these young guys and our team here to have an understanding of what that looks like.”

It was the first win for the Ducks new head coach for Joel Quenneville.

“That’s more than a wow,” Quenneville said. “You don’t expect to come back like that. I thought we played well the whole game. Fought back from a two-goal lead earlier in the game when we thought we were playing pretty well. Stayed with it ’til the end of the game and got a reward.”

Petr Mrazek made 17 saves in the win.

The Sharks took a 2-0 lead on goals from Tyler Toffoli and Ryan Reaves.

Adam Gaudette and  Jeff Skinner also scored for San Jose.

Cutter Gauthier the fist of his double on the night to cut the score to 2-1 and get the Ducks back in the game.

“We jell pretty well in practice once we started playing together,” Gauthier said. “We are always connected. It feels like there are guys all around the ice.”

Kreider also hit for a double in the win.

Beckett Sennecke and Alex Killorn added single markers for the DUcks.

John Klingberg and Jeff Skinner added single strikes for San Jose.

Yaroslav Askarov t had 36 saves in the loss.
