In San Jose, the visiting Ottawa Senators held a 3-2 lead over the Sharks in the second period. That was the highlight of the night for the Sens who surrendered four unanswered goals in a 6-3 loss.
Timo Meier hit for a goal and three points in the win for the Sharks.
James Reimer made 26 saves in the San Jose win.
“[Reimer’s] a hardworking guy,” Meier said. “We love playing in front of him. He gives us a lot of confidence. He made huge saves tonight again.”
San Jose improved to 10-8-1.
“You could just see how happy and excited the guys were for each other,” San Jose coach Bob Boughner said. “That goes a long way. It starts with competing, sticking up for each other, and acting like a family.”
Ottawa dropped 4-12-1.
“We deserved better,” Senators coach D.J. Smith said. “A point, or two. The difference tonight is probably their goaltending.”
Brady Tkachuk, Josh Norris, and Connor Brown scored for the Senators.
“I thought we played a good road game, to be honest with you,” Norris said. “I thought we controlled the play at times and had the puck a lot in their zone, and I thought we moved it around pretty good. You’ve got to give them credit too. They played a good game.”
Tomas Hertl, Nick Bonino, and Matt Nieto also scored for the Sharks.
Logan Couture and Jacob Middleton scored into empty nets for the final two goals of the game.
Matt Murray made 23 saves in the Ottawa loss.
“We just wanted to keep rolling but we made a couple of mistakes tonight,” Tkachuk said.
