In San Jose, Josef Korenar made 28 saves and the Sharks handed the Arizona Coyotes a 4-2 loss on Wednesday night.
It’s getting to be more and more like a cartoon feature these days in Arizona.
The Coyotes have had opportunities to catch and pass the St Louis Blues in the race for the fourth spot in the West, but they miss or the mark or are splattered under a falling rock.
Evander Kane, Rudolfs Balcers and Kevin Labanc scored to give the Sharks a 3-0 lead in the game.
“The starts are killing us,” Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet said. “It’s three goals again, a couple of guys make wrong [defensive] reads, and I don’t understand it. … Then you start pushing the pace, but it’s the start once again.”
Phil Kessel and Johan Larsson were the Coyotes’ goal scorers.
“We got out to a lead tonight again, it always helps when you’re playing from in front but, unfortunately, we had a lull where we let them back in it,” the Sharks’ Logan Couture said. “We really had to battle it out for the last 40 minutes.”
Tomas Hertl added an empty-net goal to secure the win for San Jose.
“At the start of the game I thought we were ready to play, but obviously it was the first five minutes again,” Tocchet said. “It’s my fault they weren’t ready to play. Ultimately, it’s my fault that we’re not ready to go.”
Darcy Kuemper made 27 saves in the loss.
“Obviously things haven’t been going great for us,” Kuemper said.
