Sharks crown Kings

In San Jose, Martin Jones made 41 saves and the Sharks nipped the Kings, 2-1, on Monday night.

“It’s a big part of our schedule coming up here and we’re not out of it, that’s for sure,” Jones said. “We’ll see what happens over the next couple weeks, but it’s definitely a good opportunity for us to bag some points and see where we’re at.”

Matt Roy scored the lone goal for the Kings.

“I thought our group played well,” Kings head coach Todd McLellan said. “We didn’t give up much. Both their goals go in off one of our players. Sometimes it’s not your night and yet you put in a pretty good effort.”

Logan Couture scored for the Sharks in the opening frame for a 1-0 lead.

“It was a lucky bounce,” Couture said. “Things just haven’t been going in for me lately and I’m counted on to score so it was a big sigh of relief to see it go in. Just figured I’d start throwing pucks at the net. It was nice to see it go in.”

After Roy tied in the second period, Ryan Donato  put home the game-winner off a backhand shot in the third period for San Jose.

“I know he’s (Jones) been working hard at making the proper adjustments,” Sharks coach Bob Boughner said. “For me, I’m not a goalie guy but it’s getting the save you need at the right time in the game, and he did that.”

Jonathan Quick made 21 saves in taking the loss.

“I think any shot on net is a good shot really,” Roy said. “A lot of times from the blue line we’re just trying to get through and look through a tip or shoot it off of his pad and create a rebound or something.”
