Sharks add to Ducks’ woes

In Anaheim, the Ducks’ offense was a no-show on Saturday night, in a 3-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks.

Martin Jones made 26 saves to get the win.

“Today, my focus was to just play,” Martin Jones said. “Trust in the habits ingrained in practice. Don’t think, just play.”

Evander Kane had a goal in his third straight game for the Sharks.

“Guys understand you can’t get too far out of the race, especially at this point in the season,” Kane said. “To get back to .500, it’s a good step for our group. We need to gain some more ground on teams that are ahead of us.”

Max Jones was the only scorer for the Ducks.

“We were better than last game, but still not good enough,” Ducks head coach Dallas Eakins said. “We’ve got to, to a man, be harder to play against. We’ve got to treat that puck like it’s our wallet. If somebody comes up to you on the street trying to take your wallet, I’m pretty sure they’re going to be in for a rough time.”

Anaheim is 2-9-3 in their last 14 games.

“Our whole group should be frustrated,” Eakins said. “If you’re just walking in here every day like this is all rainbows and butterflies, that’s not a very good attitude to have, so there has to be frustration. But you’ve got to channel that in the right direction, and not one that turns into the frustration of, ‘Poor me,’ or pointing a finger at somebody else. Your frustration has to drive you to be better and to be harder.”

The Sharks’ Kevin Labanc kept his offensive streak going with a goal, after coming back from healthy scratches,

Dylan Gambrell  also score for San Jose.Ryan Miller made 30 saves in the loss.

“We’re just a little bit snakebitten right now,” the Ducks’ Jones said. “As long as we’re getting those chances, that’s a good thing. We’re focusing on the positives, and we’re trying to stay positive on the bench. Every little thing we’re cheering for.”
