The Belleville Senators’ point streak hit 16 with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Manitoba Moose Friday night.
Nick Paul and Darren Archibald scored for the Senators while Marcus Hogberg made 25 saves. Manitoba’s Seth Griffith scored the overtime winner and had a goal in regulation, as did Jansen Harkins, while Mikhail Berdin stopped 34 shots.
The Senators had a glorious chance to win the game in overtime as Paul had an opportunity 34 seconds in on a penalty shot but Berdin stuck with the puck to get his glove up to deny the Sens forward.
Manitoba won the game at 2:03 of the extra frame on a scrappy goal that saw Griffith slide the puck under Hogberg for his second of the game and the game’s second point.
After Belleville took a too many men on the ice penalty, Manitoba opened the scoring at 7:20 through Harkins who walked in from the slot to beat Hogberg glove side for a 1-0 lead.
The visitors made it 2-0 at 17:59 through Griffith’s 11th of the year but Belleville replied just 33 seconds later through Paul who converted on the power play for his 12th of the campaign.
Belleville found an equalizer at 16:28 of the second through Archibald who was the benefactor of Vitaly Abramov’s speed as the Russian winger centered the puck for the veteran forward to bury.
With his assist on Paul’s goal, Sens forward Drake Batherson became the first player in franchise history to hit the 50 point plateau in a season.
