PHILADELPHIA – Erik Karlsson and the Ottawa Senators edged the Philadelphia Flyers Tuesday night, 3-2, in a shootout.
“I stuck to what I always do,” Karlsson said. “Plain and simple. Lucky I had a good shot, post and in. Not much more to it.”
Kyle Turris scored late in regulation to get the game even and then Karlsson was credited with the game-winner in the skills competition.
“I wanted to try and fake like I was going to bring it to the middle to get everybody to bite on that side so it would open up space for me on the far side,” Turris said. “It opened up a lot of space.”
Mark Stone also scored for the Sens.
Craig Anderson made 33 saves in the win.
Michael Raffl and Nick Cousins were the Flyers offense on the night.
Steve Mason had 24 saves in the loss but made some great stops to keep Ottawa off the board in overtime.
“That’s a game that while we have it in hand, we’ve got to do a little bit more and we have to push it so one play doesn’t tie it up late in a hockey game,” Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said.
