The Belleville Senators collected a huge two points as Adam Tambellini scored the shootout winner in a 2-1 victory over the Syracuse Crunch.
The Sens’ Nick Paul scored in regulation while Marcus Hogberg made 20 saves. Syracuse’s Eddie Pasquale stopped 24 shots while Cory Conacher scored.
After overtime solved nothing, where the Senators had a power play opportunity for the final 1:32, Logan Brown and Conacher each scored in the first round of the shootout. After Drake Batherson and Alex Volkov missed, Tambellini buried the go-ahead goal before Nolan Valleau was stopped by Hogberg.
Belleville couldn’t find its way through in the first period despite having three chances on the power play with Drake Batherson coming the closest as he rung the outside of the post.
Perhaps the most memorable moment of the period came when Sens forward Joseph LaBate laid out 6’9 Syracuse defenceman Oleg Sosunov with an open-ice hit in front of the Senators bench.
Jack Rodewald had a chance early into the second to give Belleville the lead but he was denied by Pasquale’s blocker on a partial breakaway before Syracuse broke the deadlock at 13:39 as Conacher fired a one-timer past Hogberg off of Andy Andreoff’s cross-ice feed.
The Senators grabbed an equalizer at 9:35 as moments after missing high in the slot, Paul found the back of the net this time as he buried Logan Brown’s feed after the rookie showed great patience on the set-up as the game headed into overtime.
