Senators throttle Bruins, 6-1

The season is now down to wishing for a Philadelphia Flyers collapse in their next two games for the Boston Bruins.

That is because on Saturday afternoon the Bruins put up one of their most lackluster performances of the season in a 6-1 rout at the hands of the Ottawa Senators.

Goalie Andrew Hammond (#30)

The Bruins are 3-8-1 in their 12 games and only have themselves and their age to blame for the position they are now residing.

The Bruins took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a goal from David Pastrnak at 5:04 of the first period.

Zack Smith (two goals), Chris Neil, Matt Puempel, Mike Zibanejad, and Jean-Gabriel Pageau all scored for the Senators after that opening marker from Boston.

By the time it was 4-1 the Boston faithful were restless and in fact displeased with the effort displayed on the ice.

And the TD Gardens began emptying quickly when the Sens hit an empty net with under ten minutes to play, making it 5-1.

Andrew Hammond made 39 saves in the win.

Jonas Gustavsson was the victim of the Bruins’ poor play with at least three of the four goals out of his control.

The Bruins stood around their own defensive zone looking more like a team disqualified from post season play back in February.

The Senators’ two empty-net goals to finish out the scoring came on shorthanded situations with the Bruins skating 6-on-4.

Now, the waiting game for Boston.  Does it last until this evening or next season?
