PHILADELPHIA- The Ottawa Senators’ Tim Stutzle hit for a double on Saturday, including the game-winner on extra time, to send the Sens to a 3-2 decision over the Flyers.

Tim Stützle #18 of the Ottawa Senators scores a goal against Samuel Ersson #33 of the Philadelphia Flyers
“Unbelievable pass by Drake,” Stutzle said. “I think [Thomas Chabot] made a great read; I thought he was giving [the stretch pass] to me, but then he saw two guys swinging with me, so Drake was wide open. If [Batherson] has the puck in his hands, I just drive the net, and he’ll find me.”
Linus Ullmark made 20 saves in the win.
“That was a tight checking game,” Ottawa coach Travis Green said. “Both teams defended hard. I really liked the start of our game; I thought we came out fast. And I thought they pushed back, like a good team will do in their own building. And we found a way to get two points.”
Stutzle staked the Sens to a 1-0 lead at 5:14 of the first period.
“This is two games now that the other team comes out stronger than us and out-battles us and makes it hard on us to come back,” Philadelphia captain Sean Couturier said. “But as much as it could’ve been a frustrating day, we didn’t give them a whole lot after the first. It was still a big point.”
Michael Amadio pushed the advantage to 2-0 for Ottawa at 6:19.
“I’ve got to do a better job of getting the team ready,” Flyers coach Rick Tocchet said, “because we’re chasing after that. Like, we obviously didn’t like our first, and then after that, I mean, it’s a good hockey team, what was it, three shots [against] in the last two periods? I mean, that’s hard to do against anybody, and Ottawa’s a good team.”
Matvei Michkov cut the deficit in half just past the midway point of the middle frame.
“What ‘Mich’ did is something that we’re preaching all the time,” Tocchet said. “That was textbook. And then what it does, we want to attack the interior, not just defer to the point all the time. … That strong side winger, he goes, ‘What do I do?’ He was worried about the point shot and then Mich takes the middle and shoots from the interior. That’s a perfect example. That’ll be in the video room tomorrow on how you want to do it.”
Jamie Drysdale forced the extra session when he knotted the game, 2-2, midway through the third period.
“I feel like we never think we’re out of the game, but you’re not going to come back every game,” Drysdale said. “We’ve just got to come out a little more ready and have a little bit better of a start.”
The Senators generated little offense for nearly half the game. They recorded no shots on goal from the the 13 minute mark of the second pored to late in the third.
“I think we played a little bit too defensively in the third,” Stutzle said. “Just chipping too many pucks. We didn’t really want the puck, it felt like. They had a good push, but Linus kept us in it the whole game. I think he was unreal tonight, really patient. It was fun to watch. It’s a big two points.”
Samuel Ersson made 10 saves in the loss.
