Senators score three in a row in the third to hand Maple Leafs, 6-3 loss Kubalik, Giroux hit for doubles in win

In a span of three minutes in the third period, the Senators scored three goals  on Wednesday night to take a 6-3 win over the Maple Leafs in Toronto.

Dominik Kubalik started the outburst for with his second goal of the game, Ottawa at 11:56pu, off the power play, to give the Sens a 4-3 lead.

Tim Stützle  scored just 45 seconds later for a 5-3 advantage to Ottawa,.

“I felt like I wanted the puck tonight and I thought our whole line (with Mathieu Joseph and Claude Giroux) was going,” Stutzle said. “We were having the puck the whole game, creating chances and staying on pucks.”

Claude Giroux scored his second of the game at 15:06 for the 6-3 final score.

Joonas Korpisalo made 28 saves in the win.

The Senators improved to 5-6-0.

Toronto took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a power play strike by William Nylander at 5:47.

“We battled pretty good there and got a tough bounce on the PK and then kind of lost it,” Nylander said. “But I think we are facing adversity early and I think it’s good for us. We need to grow and build, we’ve got a lot of new guys here, so build the team together and build around that.”

Kubalik tied the game, 1-1, with his first7:12. of the contest at

Giroux’s first of the match came with 65 seconds gone in the middle frame for a 2-1 lead to Ottawa.

“We’ve been talking about it for a few weeks,” Giroux said. “We want to play consistent and play the right way. Coming on the road, it’s a great opportunity to come together and do that. So it definitely feels good. We’re happy with the way we played.”

It did not last long, as the Maple Leafs tied it on a marker from Tyler Bertuzzi t at 4:16.

Ottawa reclaimed the lead, 3-2, on a strike by Jakob Chychrun at 14:06 of the second.

The Maple Leafs dropped to 6-5-2.

“We’ve got a lot of hockey left here,” Toronto coach Sheldon Keefe said. “It’s early. But it’s time to pull it together here. We have to get our game in order and do all we can to take care of each other, take care of guys who are struggling in whatever position it is.”

In the third, Nicholas Robertson tied it, 3-3, at 7:42 of the period leading to the outburst by the Senators.

Joseph Woll  made 21 saves in the loss.

“First and foremost, not good enough by me,” Woll said. “I thought we played well and generated some offense. … I know I need to be better in that game.”
