Senators edge Ducks in OT, 2-1

The loss pushed the Ducks to 0-6-3 in their last nine matches.

Bobby Ryan scored for Ottawa in regulation.

“We feel like we were in a lot of games lately, and we let them go away in the third period and get away from us,” Ryan said. “Tonight, we just stuck with it.”

Anders Nilsson made 32 saves in the win as the Sens improved to 16-23-5.

“Even though Anaheim had some zone time in the second period and had some shots, most of the shots were from the outside and we didn’t give up any odd-man rushes, or at least not a lot of odd-man rushes throughout the whole game,” Nilsson said. “They played really good in front of me, and I think that’s the way we need to keep playing because we have a lot of offensive skilled players that can put the puck in the net.”

Jakob Silfverberg had the lone Ducks goal in the middle frame.

“We’re not creating enough offensive chances that are consecutive,” Anaheim head coach Randy Carlyle said. “When we do, we seem to be snakebit around the net. We’ve had ample chances but haven’t been able to find the back of the net consistently.”

Anaheim dropped to 19-17-8.

“These are the difficult ones to turn the page on,” Carlyle said.

John Gibson made 28 saves in the loss.

“In the offensive zone, we’re standing still. If you look at the high-scoring teams in the League, it feels like they have guys flying everywhere,” Hampus Lindholm said after the loss. “They involve the [defensemen] a lot and have forwards coming up. It’s hard defending teams with guys always on the move. A lot of times, we get stagnant. We need to find ways to get through.”
