Senators defeat Montreal on the road

In Montreal Tuesday, the Ottawa Senators’ Mike Hoffman and Mark Stone had a goal each and three assists to help the Sens defeat the Montreal Canadiens, 4-3.

Carey Price took the loss for the Habs and “fell” to 11-1-1 on the season on 19 saves.

Craig Anderson made 36 saves to pick up the win.200px-Ottawa_Senators_svg

“When we really needed it, we put it in the net, and that’s been missing a bit,” Erik Karlsson said. “We’ve been struggling a bit. It was nice to see that the top dogs on our team can score some goals as well when we needed to, and at the same time playing solid defensively. That’s what we need.”

Karlsson and Derick Brassard also scored for the Senators.

The Habs scored twice on eight power play chances as the Senators had issues with staying out of the box.

“It was a tough one. We spent half the game in the penalty box. From that standpoint, it was a mental challenge, and we were mentally tough to stick to it,” Senators head coach Guy Boucher said. “The scoring chances we were getting the previous games, they went in this time. What was good is we lifted the puck. The stuff we had really started to do much better the last games, they paid off.”

Montreal got goals from Shea Weber, Alexander Radulov and Alex Galchenyuk.

“As far as we’re concerned, we deserved a better fate, that’s how I see it,” Canadiens head coach Michel Therrien said. “There are games you win over the course of a season that you know in your heart you shouldn’t have won, and there are games that balance it out where you think you deserved a better fate, but you come out of it without a win. This was one of those games.”
