Sellout crowd watches Walleye take down K-wings

TOLEDO, OH – A.J. Jenks scored twice as the Toledo Walleye defeated Kalamazoo by a score of 5-2 on Saturday night in front of a sold out crowd. Toledo has a record of 5-2-1-0 and is 2-0-0-0 at home.

Kalamazoo struck first just 19 seconds into the game to take the early 1-0 lead. Tyler Barnes tied it up at 6:27 of the first period when he went top-shelf on Kalamazoo goaltender Joel Martin. The tally was Barnes’ third of the season. At 12:41 of the first, Jenks netted his third of the season as well on the power play, putting Toledo up 2-1.

Just 4:56 into the second period, Christian Hilbrich snuck one past Martin, netting his third goal of the season. The assist was credited to Simon Denis. Jenks netted his second of the game when he knocked in a rebound just three minutes later. Kalamazoo got one back on the power play, bringing the Walleye lead to 4-2 after two periods of play.

Colin Martin recorded his first goal of the season in his first game at 8:37 of the third period, pushing the lead to 5-2.

Fish Tales: Goaltender Pat Nagle started the game for the Walleye and stopped 33 of the 35 shots he faced. Nagle is 5-0-1-0 on the season… Defenseman Brock Beukeboom was traded to Greenville in exchange for future considerations. Beukeboom did not appear in a game for Toledo.
