Seattle rally falls short in loss to Blackhawks

In Seattle,Seth Jones,Alex DeBrincat, and Patrick Kane scored for the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday night to help them build a 3-0 lead into the early minutes of the third period.

It was just enough as the Kraken rallied with two goals in the third, but came up short in a 4-2 loss to the Hawks.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 saves in the Chicago win.

The Blackhawks improved to 5-92 with their fourth win in a row.

“[Jones] is awesome. I mean, he’s very skilled,” DeBrincat said. “He’s really fast, as you guys saw. It just brings a whole new dynamic to it. You can get four guys in the rush rather than three. I think he’s helped us a lot this year.”

Seattle’s Jared McCann and Yanni Gourde scored in the third period, after Kane had pushed the Chicago lead to 3-0.

“Wish I had an answer for it,” McCann said. “It’s frustrating. We need to clean it up. I’m frustrated. I want to win. I think everybody does on our team. You know, things aren’t going our way right now. But we’re shooting ourselves in the foot. That’s the way it is.”

McCain’s goal came off the power play to get the score to 3-1.

“We’ve got to figure out a way to play a little bit better with the lead,” Kane said. “Just seemed like it was a lot of like chasing the puck, get it out of the zone, and they come out and do the same thing over and over again. It’s not really the recipe for success. That should be the fun time to play hockey, and when you have the lead, the other teams take chances, and you can take advantage.”

Chicago’s Jake McCabe hit for an empty-net goal late for the 4-2 final.

Philipp Grubauer made 15 saves in the loss for the Kraken.

“This team is resilient,” Seattle head coach Dave Hakstol said. “I love the resiliency of the second and third. So we’ve got to add that push to the drop of the puck in the first period.”
