In Seattle, the Kraken had no answer for Evander Kane who scored three goal for the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday in a 6-4 win over Seattle.
“Obviously nice to help contribute to an important win,” said Kane. “Big points with the division so tight. … Just trying to get into a rhythm heading into the playoffs. Tonight definitely helps out.”
The Oilers improved to 39-23-8 on their third straight win.
Stuart Skinner made 33 saves in the win.
The Kraken dropped to 38-24-7 off their fourth loss in five games.
“Our team played a good hockey team today,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “That’s an even hockey game. We worked extremely hard, especially on the offensive side of the puck. We worked hard. … It’s a disappointing outcome. Our team played hard. Our team played well.”
Kane’s first of the afternoon staked the Oilers to a 1-0 lad, before the Kraken tied it on a strike byJaden Schwartz at 6:34.
Kailer Yamamoto restored the lead, 2-1, at 16:36
“We’ve got a lot of good players who can score,” Yamamoto said. “They’re a good team. They have a lot of good players over there. They find ways to score. They defend hard. Give a lot of props to them for sticking in it. But we found a way to win. That’s a big ‘W’ for us.”
Kane and Seattle’s Jordan Eberle traded goals for a 3-2 score to the Oilers in the middle frame.
“I think we just gave them too many high-quality chances,” Eberle said. “We had our chances. I think, for the most part, we were skating with them and creating plays.”
Edmonton reclaimed a two-goal advantage on a marker from Zach Hyman, Oliver Bjorkstrand scored before the end of the middle frame for a 4-3 count to the OIlers.
“For big parts of the game, I thought we played well,” Bjorkstrand said. “Obviously, when you play a team like that, they’re good at scoring goals. The details have to be there. You’ve got to bear down.”
Kane completed jis hat trick midway through the third for a 5-3 lead.
Connor McDavid scored his 58th of the campaign for a 6-3 lead, Seattle’s Eeli Tolvanen scored for the 6-4 final with 48 seconds left on the clock.
“It’s a tough building. They’re a good team,” Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft said. “In the end, we found a way to get the two points in a tough building, so we’ll take them and move on.”
Philipp Grubauer got the start for Seattle and surrendered three goals while making seven saves before getting the hook allowed three goals on 10 shots before departing the game with an illness early in the second period.
Martin Jones made 10 saves in relief.
