BILOXI, MS – The Mississippi Sea Wolves scored three times in the third period on Saturday night to prevail against the Carolina Thunderbirds 6-4 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
Despite only recording four shots in the opening period, the Sea Wolves hung with the Thunderbirds for a 1-1 stalemate at the first intermission. Philip Wong (17:12) drew first blood for the Sea Wolves before Tucker Firth (19:01) supplied the quick response for Carolina.
The respective offenses dialed things up in period two with five combined goals. Lucas Rowe (1:09) of the Thunderbirds and Mississippi’s Trevor Finch (3:07) exchanged
strikes for a 2-2 score. Peter Panacek and Rowe both scored just 23 seconds apart as the Thunderbirds went up 4-2.
While on a penalty kill, Dakota Ulmer cut the Sea Wolves deficit back to one on a breakaway goal at 12:38 of play.
Trailing 5-4, the Sea Wolves skated out of the dressing room and controlled the third period with three goals between Chuck Costello and Yarolav Yevdokimov, who capitalized twice. Yevdokimov scored both the game-winner and empty net conversion and Justin Barr was credited with back-to-back assists.
Goaltender Ian Wallace earned his first win in net for the Sea Wolves with a 31-save outing.
“We’ve got a good team together and we’re looking forward to the future,” said head coach and defenseman Joe Pace. Pro Hockey News was fortunate to be on hand for Saturday’s much-needed win for the Sea Wolves, whose 3-13-2 performance thus far has them next to last in the FPHL standings.

“The attendance is picking up,” continued Pace. “It really makes a difference in the momentum.” Indeed it was a jubilant night in Biloxi, both in the stands and in the locker room. The players came out after the game to applause, signing autographs and meeting with fans. The Sea Wolves travel to Baton Rouge on Thursday to face the Port Huron Prowlers in a neutral site matchup.
