Sea Wolves take down River Dragons, 4-3 in OT PHN's Best Shots of the Game

BILOXI, MS Night 2 of a Two game series between the Mississippi Sea Wolves and the Columbus River Dragons.

After the lose of the on Wednesday, the Sea Wolves were looking to show up and show out.

Both teams took the ice and were looking to bring home the win and for Columbus that would just be adding more to their point lead over the rest of the team in the league.  Meanwhile, a win for for Biloxi would just pull them closer to the Playoffs.Sea Wolves started the game off with a 2 minute Bench Minor for an Illegal substitution which set the tone for the Dragons to start out on top with a power play.

#15 (F) Kyle Moore struck with the first goal at the 5:07 mark with #7 (F) Justin MacDonald and #88 (F) Ryan Hunter for the assist. This put Dragons up over the Wolves 1-0.  Being down by 1, the Sea Wolves battled hard and then caught a break with Carter Shinkaruk #91 (F) got sent to the box for a Cross Check which sat him out for 2 minutes.  Wolves battled to get a goal during the Power Play but was not able to seal the deal.  Every was back to full strength and the battle continued until at 6:59 in the !st #23 Jackson Bond was able to put one in to the back of the net right past Joseph.  With skilled passing skills from #11 (F) Lucas Helland to #27 (D) Connor Lind and also #48 (D) Davide Asselin, the team was able to tie up the score at 1-1.

Playing hard for the majority of the 1st period all was hard and intense skating with a High Sticking call on #47 Nolan Slachetka he got to take a break for a couple of minutes for his minor.   Play continued on when the Dragons yet again get a penalty called on them this time on their goalie #30 Talor Joseph for Slashing which was Served by #4 (F) Alex Jmaeff. On the tail end of this unusual call, the iron was hot and Biloxi struck while it was hot. At 18:47, #11  Lucas Helland racked up his 4th goal for the season so far aiding him in this feat was #27 Connor Lind and #48 Davide Asselin. 1st Period ends with Biloxi up over Columbus with a score of 2-1.

Puck drops to open the 2nd period and Columbus came out to mean some business.  With less then a minute into action Carter Shinurak #71 (F) shots and scores on a nice pass from Alex Storjohann #4 (F) netting the tying goal at 2-2.  With the score tied up and both teams looking for the next one.  They skated clean up and down the ice with long periods of play.  Neither team was looking gassed or tired at all, they played long stretches of action. Then with the clock reading 18:47 and the end of the 2nd period coming close to the horn, #10 Philip Wong backed by #74 Joakim Nilsson and #Dominik Mantonak who is just new to the team surge the team forward with a fast pace goal putting the Wolves up 3-2. At the period sounding horn, the team head off to regroup with a very high paced period.  The period ended with just 1 penalty being called and that was a 2 minute minor on #17 Kyle Russell for holding.

3rd Period was just as explosive and intense as the two periods before it.  The teams were playing on their highest level of play that is for sure.  Back and forth both teams with goalies making incredible saves and blocks.  SOG for each team we were being made and answered by both teams.  #1 Blake Weyrick and #30 Talor Joseph were making it very hard for anyone to score.  As the action progressed we saw the Sea Wolves get their chances to advance the score with Power Plays coming at 6:49 with #88 Ryan Hunter sitting it out for 2 mins for Slashing.  With seconds to go and the goalie signal the return of Hunter to even things up #71 Jmaeff gets sent in for Slashing for 2 mins and that carries over the Power Play for the Wolves. Back up on the even keel of number for players, the game still remains 3-2. Russell gets time for Cross Checking and give the Power Play to Columbus.  This worked in favor of the Dragons.  at 16:59 Shinkaruk #91 finds a chink in the armor of Weyrick and is able to tie up the game 3-3.  The assists went to Alex Jmaeff #71 and Cody Wickline #10.  At the sounding of the horn, the game is tied and the game head to overtime.

Much to the amazement to all in attendance, the overtime went just at the regular play did.  The ice warriors marched up and down the ice and the guardians of the net were blocking all entrance to the net.  As the time down and it was starting to look like a possible shoot out was coming.  #18 (F) Capt Justin Barr slaps one in to the back of the net. This intense playing veteran pulled it out in last few minutes of over time.   He was assisted by #27 Connor Lind and #11 Lucas Helland.This was Barr’s 8th goal of the season he has been netting a goal a game in these past few weeks.   Sea Wolves Slay the Dragons in over time earning them more points to march up to secure a playoff bid.

Game ended with Weyrick taking 39 shots on goal and making 35 saves.  While the opposing goalie Joseph took 29 shots with 25 saves.

Stars of the games went to  3rd Cater Shinkuark, 2nd star went to #10 Philip Wong and 1st went to #11 Lucas Helland who asked his Capt #18 Justin Barr to come out and Skate with him on the lap around.Â
