SAN JOSE, Calif. – The St. Louis Blues managed a 5-0 shutout against the San Jose Sharks in game five of the Western Conference playoffs before a sold-out crowd at the SAP Center.

Just under six minutes into he game, Oskar Sundqvist scored an unassisted goal from the top of the circle. That would be the only goal in the first period.

Early in the Second period, Jaden Schwartz scored his first of three goals, when Martin Jones in the Sharks net turned a shot away, handing it right to his stick. The shot was unassisted.

A Blues breakaway opportunity was held back by Brent Burns, when he threw himself down and allowed his stick to trip up Vladimir Tarasenko resulting in a penalty shot opportunity. Tarasenko’s shot beat Jones near the top of the net, putting the Blues up 3-0.

The Sharks seemed to be moving a little slow as they came out in the third. Erik Karlsson didn’t return to the ice from the break, and Joe Pavelski skated only a few minutes, leaving the bench as well. Joonas Donskoi took a puck to the face, and also left the ice.

Two consecutive Sharks penalties gave the Blues a five-on-three opportunity by the Blues, allowed Schwartz to score his second goal of the night. Then, with just over three minutes remaining in regulation, a pass across the crease to a waiting Schwartz, gave him the hat-trick goal, leaving Jones sprawled on the ice.
