PHILADELPHIA – The Winnipeg Jets’ Mark Scheifele hot for a double on Thursday night to help the Jets to a 5-2 win over the Flyers.

Vladislav Namestnikov #7 of the Winnipeg Jets gets the puck past Philadelphia Flyers goalie Samuel Ersson #33 and defenseman Jamie Drysdale #9 and Nick Seeler #24

Scheifele has five goals in his last three games, and tied Blake Wheeler for most points bya Jets/Thrasher skater.

“Obviously very cool,” Scheifele said. “‘Wheels’ was a guy that taught me so much, so to be tied with him is a huge honor.”

Connor Hellebuyck made 15 saves to get the win.

“We’ve played better,” Scheifele said. “Obviously, the first game we didn’t play our game, but we’ve definitely played better. It’s encouraging. It’s still early in the season, so we still have a lot of things to fix and a lot of new faces still trying to figure out it all. So, we’ve just got to keep getting better.”

The Jets took a 2-0 lead on goals from Vladislav Namestnikov in the first period, and Scheifele in the middle frame.

“It was a weird game,” Flyers coach Rick Tocchet said. “The first period we decided not to play like we did against Florida (5-2 win Monday). A lot of turnovers. … We had our chances at certain parts of the game, passing through sticks and skates, turnovers.”

Owen Tippett got the Flyers on the board to trim the deficit to 2-1.

“It just comes down to execution,” Tippett said. “I don’t think they did anything special. Just comes down to execution, and they buried on their chances and we didn’t.”

Morgan Barron struck for what would be the deciding goal to give the Jets a 3-1 lead.

“He’s been amazing,” Scheifele said. “Face-offs, skates well, big, strong. He’s obviously had a knack around the net and done a lot of great things for this team that go unnoticed. And obviously when you do the right things, good things happen.”

Scheifele’s double pushed the lead to 4-1.

Matvei Michkov added a marker for the Flyers to get the score to 4-2.

Tanner Pearson hit an empty net with less than two minutes left on the clock for the 5-2 final.

Samuel Ersson made 10 saves in the Flyers loss.
