WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Jets were in the midst of a six-game home losing streak and something had to give sooner or later and there was no bigger stage then a battle with the Montreal Canadiens on Hockey Night in Canada Saturday night.
The Jets came away with a huge 4-2 win to get their first win on home ice since January.
The Jets were led by center Mark Scheifele who had the best game of his career so far as he scored a hat trick. He has been on fire since the Jets lost Bryan Little for the season with a fractured vertebrae. Sheifele has filled in as the team’s number one center and has seven goals and five assists in his last eight games.
Scheifele scored his 18th, 19th, and 20th of the season and Andrew Copp added his third of the year for the Jets.
Alex Galchenyuk scored his 20th and 21st goals of the season for Montreal.
Ondrej Pavelec stopped 26 of 28 shots for the win and improves to 7-9-2 on the year for the Jets.
Winnipeg’s 2013 first round pick Josh Morrissey was recalled from the AHL’s Manitoba Moose and played his first NHL game and had 16 minutes of ice time and one shot on goal in his debut.
The Jets dished out forty hits tonight in one of their more physical games of the season and there fourth line of Andrew Copp , JC Lipon and Matt Halischuk were front and center banging and crashing all game long.
The Jets showed some good poise as they battled hard and were determined to get the win as they came into the third tied at 1-1 and then 2-2 before taking the lead and holding on for the win.
The Jets will welcome the Edmonton Oilers to complete their final back to back games for the season Sunday night.
