Saros, Predators blank Jets, 1-0

In Winnipeg, Juuse Saros made 28 saves for Nashville, as the Predators beat the Jets, Sunday night, 1-0.

“I thought the guys in front of him defended really well, but anytime a goaltender gets a shutout he’s got to make some huge saves,” Predators coach John Hynes said. “I think one of the biggest ones I believe was when we were on the power play and we gave up a breakaway early [to Copp]. We had the game in control, and he made a huge save there. A couple big saves on [Patrik] Laine on the power play.

“His composure, rebound control, he was tracking pucks really well. So it’s nice to see [him] have the game that he had and hopefully he continues that.”

Kyle Turris scored the game’s only goal in the middle stages of the opening frame.

“We were coming out of our zone more clean through the middle and it creates,” Turris said. “[It] kind of turns into more speed offensively and just more of an offensive threat.”

Connor Hellebuyck made 31 saves in the loss.

“I don’t think we play a whole lot different home and road,” Jets head coach Paul Maurice said. “We were able to dominate in the past here, where we would have had a heavy line matchup unevenness for teams coming in that we don’t have now. So it’s going to be a flat line. We’re going to have to battle every night. You’re not getting that matchup dominance that maybe you used to have, in terms of shutdown pairs of D necessarily or how we move the puck.”
