Cardiff Devils took control early and never looked back as they beat Guildford Flames 7–1 on Friday night at the Vindico Arena.
Cardiff struck first at 11:12 when Cole Sanford finished off a strong drive to the net from Gleason Fournier. Sanford added his second less than four minutes later, tucking in the rebound from an Evan Mosey shot at 14:54. With 10 seconds left in the period, Kristoff Kontos fired through a screen to give the Devils a commanding three-goal lead.
Just over five minutes into the second, Fournier had the final touch on a looping puck created by Brett Perlini to make it 4–0. Flames netminder Jake Kupsky then got himself into difficulty behind the net, allowing Kohen Olischefski to set up former Flame Brett Ferguson to score Cardiff’s fifth at 37:10.
Former Devil Jake Coughler pulled one back for Guildford with 7:23 remaining, but Sanford completed his hat trick at 53:15. Josh MacDonald rounded off the scoring with 1:10 to play on a dominant night for the Devils.
