San Jose Barracuda play pre-season game at new arena

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors and San Jose Barracuda finished a two game, home-away pre-season series tonight, splitting the games.  On Friday, at Bakersfield, the Condors toppled the Barracuda 5-1.  On Saturday, the Barracuda pulled off an overtime 3-2 win over the Condors in their first ever game played in the new Tech CU arena in San Jose.

On Fridays, action, Brandon Coe was the Barracuda’s only goal scorer in the first period.  Matt Boudens and Filip Engaras each scored in the first and second periods respectively.  The Condors piled on three more goals from each Tye Felhaber, Dino Kambeitz (powerplay) and Michael Kesselring (empty net, shorthanded).  Kesselring also had an assist on an earlier goal.

In the last thirty seconds of the game, 92 penalty minutes were assessed following a series of melees.

Barracuda goaltenders split the net time between Strauss Mann (17 saves, 1 goal-against, and 30:59 minutes) and Zachary Emond (12 saves, 3 goals-against, 28:01 minutes).

The Condors goaltenders also split the net time between Olivier Rodrigue (15 saves, 1 goal-against, and 30:59 minutes) and Ryan Fanti (9 saves, zero goals-against, and 29:01 minutes).

Saturday’s late day action in San Jose at the new Tech CU arena, the game was back and forth scoring, with the final 3-2 score coming after 2:11 of overtime action.

San Jose’s Luke Johnson scored the first goal of the game on a power play at 12:21. No scoring in the second period.

Condor’s Samuel Dove-McFalls scored at 7:23 to even the score, but San Jose came back with a goal off the stick of Scott Reedy on a power play.  Matt Bouden’s tied up the game at 12:53 on a power play goal as well, his second in as many days.

San Jose’s Artemi Kniazev scored the overtime winning goal, with an assist from Johnson to give the Barracuda the overtime win.

Barracuda goaltender Eetu Makiniemi played the entire game in the net, with 29 saves for his efforts.  Ryan Fanti (12 saves, 1 goal-against, and 29:09 minutes) and Olivier Rodrique (6 saves, 2 goals-against, and 31:20 minutes) split the net time.
