SAN ANTONIO – A second-period scoring burst propelled the San Antonio Rampage (23-13-3-0) to a 5-2 win over the Texas Stars (16-15-9-0) in front of 3,519 at the AT&T Center on Tuesday night.
Corban Knight tallied his first goal in a Rampage uniform, and Bobby Butler, Logan
Shaw, Ryan Martindale and Connor Brickley also buried pucks for the Silver and Black.
The Stars struck first, as Cameron Gaunce’s shot from the point off the faceoff was deflected in by Jesse Root, giving the defending Calder Cup Champions a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the contest. Ryan Martindale answered for San Antonio, taking a stretch pass from Rocco Grimaldi at the blue line and backhanding a shot past Jack Campbell.
The Silver and Black scored two quick goals early in the second period to take a 3-1 lead. Within a 1:09 span, Connor Brickley punched in a loose puck in front of the net, and Logan Shaw deflected a Blake Parlett shot, giving the Rampage a two-goal lead at 9:27.
A great individual effort by Corban Knight extended the Rampage’s lead to three early in the final frame. Knight took a pass from Steven Kampfer at center ice and skated in one-on-one, finishing with a backhand shot for his first goal in a Rampage sweater. Brett Olson hit Bobby Butler with a pass just over a minute later, and Butler converted to give San Antonio a 5-1 lead at 2:45.
The Stars countered with a power-play goal from Scott Glennie at 8:11 of the period to halt San Antonio’s five-goal run, but the scoring would end there, and the Rampage took a 5-2 win, their fourth victory of the season over their West Division rivals.
The Silver and Black outshot the Stars 26-24, and Dan Ellis stopped 22 of 24 shots on the night.
