In Buffalo, Eric Comrie made 31 saves and the Sabres downed the Tampa Bay Lightning, 5-3, on Saturday afternoon.
After falling behind 1-0 on a marker from Brayden Point in the first period, the Sabres rattled off five straight goals to take a 5-1 lead in the third period.
Two late goals from the Lightning dressed up the final count.
Tage Thompson scored off the power play in the first period to tie the game, 1-1, and Vinnie Hinostroza put the Sabres up, 2-1, in the middle frame.
Buffalo improved to 32-25-4.
Point and Thompson both scored off the power play in the first period.
Tampa was 1-for-6 on the power play, and Buffalo scored twice in five chances.
Tyson Jost and Jack Quinn scored in the back half of the second period to give the Sabres a 4-1 advantage.
The Lightning dropped to 37-20-5.
Jeff Skinner scored the Sabres’ second power play goal in the third period for a 5-1 lead.
Nick Perbix and Alex Killorn scored for Tampa late in the third for the 5-3 final.
Brian Elliott made 29 saves in the Tampa loss.
