A little bit of offense will go a long way for any goaltenders. And Robin Lehner might have fared better earlier in the season with the Buffalo Sabres.
On Thursday night, in Vancouver, Lehner made 30 saves to backstop a four-goal support from his offense in a 4-0 win over the Canucks.
Sam Reinhart, Nicholas Baptiste , Kyle Okposo, and Johan Larsson struck for the Sabres who have now posted two straight shutout wins with Lehner leading the way in net.
“We’ll get three, four days here to think about why we were successful,” Lehner said. “We really got to reflect and understand why we are getting these results.
“This was no fluke, we let in one goal in three games on this road trip. That is quite a big thing for us, and maybe we just have to start really analyzing why we are getting these results because it’s very fun playing. We got to start building something here for the rest of the season to start getting out identity and our culture together. It’s very important for us.”
Vancouver dropped to 19-24-6 with the loss.
“It’s disheartening. We’re not a good enough team to play 45 minutes and I’m pretty sure our players know that. We have talked about it. We definitely had a letdown after a big emotional win our last game and I’m not happy about it,” Canucks head coach Travis Green said after another loss.

Jacob Markstrom made 22 saves in taking the loss.
The loss was the second in three games and the second by shutout .
“This is a problem, we play a good game and get a big win at home and then we’re happy,” Markstrom said. “I don’t know if the guys get loose or too relaxed and think we’re a great hockey team that can go half-speed, and it includes myself. I need to come up with two good games in a row and bail my teammates out. It’s tough. It’s very frustrating.”
