Sabres’ rebuild starts on blue line with the number one pick PHN's annual Mock Entry Draft starts in Buffalo

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo Sabres found themselves in familiar position at the end of the 2017-18 season, looking from the outside of the NHL Playoffs and preparing for another NHL Entry Draft. This time around the Sabres ended the season with the league’s worst record, and as luck would have it won the draft lottery and the right to pick first overall in next June’s draft.

This time around there is no debate with who will be the top pick in the draft will be. This year’s top prize is Swedish defenseman Rasmus Dahlin. Usually when the draft comes around there is a debate on who the top pick will be but not this time around.

Dahlin has everything that says future All-Star, great skating ability and vision, a solid overall talent on both sides of the ice.

With Jack Eichel and a crop of quality upcoming talent nearing NHL level it wouldn’t surprise anyone if Buffalo pushes for a playoff spot this year. Having the first overall pick in the upcoming NHL Draft doesn’t hurt either.

Usually we toss around ides in our mock draft who a team might take when their time to pick comes around but there are no surprises here. At the end of the day look for the Sabres to make the following announcement in Dallas at the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.

“With the first overall selection in the 2018 NHL Draft, the Buffalo Sabres are proud to select, from Frolunda, Sweden, defenseman Rasmus Dahlin”
