Sabres double up Flames, 6-3

In Calgary, the Buffalo Sabres’ Rasmus Dahlin became the first defenseman in NHL to open a season with goals in four straight games.

“I don’t know what’s going on,” Dahlin said. “It’s crazy. I don’t know. I don’t know what to say really. It’s pretty crazy to think about it. It’s 78 games left. I’ve got more job to do.”

The Sabres defeated the Flames on Thursday night, 6-3.

Alex Tuch scored a hat-trick for the Sabres, his first in the NHL.

“It’s the style of hockey we want to play,” Tuch said. “We want to be right in their face. We want to go right ahead. Playing offense is a lot more fun than playing defense. It really is. We’re trying to play as simple as possible and we’re just going. Whenever we have a chance we’re going, and it’s fun, and we’re playing together.”

Eric Comrie made 40 saves in the win.

Calgary got goals from Andrew Mangiapane, Trevor Lewis and Nikita Zadorov.

“You can’t take any team lightly, that’s for sure in this league,” Mangiapane said. “I think just coming in we’ve got to be better prepared and not take any team lightly because they’ll sting you.”

Casey Mittelstadt and Dylan Cozens added single markers for the Sabres.

“Somehow he always scores when we have to score,” Dahlin said. “He breaks the momentum. He’s such a momentum-breaker player. We’re super happy to have him and he did a great job tonight. Stay hot, ‘Tucky.'”

Jacob Markstrom made nine saves and surrendered three goals before getting the hook in the first intermission.

“You gotta give them credit, they played a great game and they responded well,” Flames forward Nazem Kadri said. “We got one early in the third period and obviously they responded with a goal. So you gotta tip your cap, but it was a little too easy for them breaking through the neutral zone tonight and that seemed to be a bit of an issue with us.”

Dan Vladar made 17 saves through the final two periods.
