Sabres damage Flyers’ push for playoffs Flyers into second wild card spot - Update to follow

In Buffalo, the visiting Philadelphia Flyers did most things right on the stats sheet. Except of course, score. The Flyers held the Sabres to 19 shots, and lost 4-2 on Friday night. With the loss, the Flyers dropped into the second wild spot in the Eastern Conference, tied in points with the New York Islanders, but have played one game more than the Isles.

Jack Quinn hit for a double in the Sabres’ win.

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 32 saves in he win.

The Sabres improved to 37-35-5 off their second straight win.

Much to the Flyers’ chagrin, the Sabres have pulled to within four points of them for the second wild card.

The Sabres took a 1-0 lead in the first period on a strike by Tage Thompson at 10:01, scoring off a solo rush to the net for the goal.

Philadelphia replied near the midway point of the second period on a marker frm Noah Cates . He scored off a wrister from the right circle.

Buffalo reclaimed the lead, 2-1, on a goal from Rasmus Dahlin at 14:51 also scoring with a wrist shot, this one from the high slot.

The Flyers dropped to 36-30-11 off their sixth straight loss.

Quinn potted his first of the double at 19:54 of the middle frame for a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.

Owen Tippett closed the gap to 3-2 with a strike midway through the third period, scoring off a shot form the point that eluded Luukkonen.

Quinn collected his double at 13:59, scoring off a rebound of his initial shot for the 4-2 final count on the scoreboard.

Ivan Fedotov made 15 saves in the loss. It was his first NHL start.
