Royals take Game One over Elmira

READING, PA – The Reading Royals waited until the last day of the regular season to get into the 2012 ECHL playoffs, but they could be hanging around for more than one series if Game One of the Eastern Conference Quarter is any barometer. The Royals defeated the Elmira Jackals 4-1 home ice and take a 1-0 series lead heading into Game Two on Wednesday night in Reading.

Kenny Ryan had 2 goals and 1 assist to lead the Royals to victory. Yannick Riendeau was the night’s second star with a goal and assist while goaltender Mark Owuya made 35 saves on 36 shots. Neither team scored on the power play on eight chances overall. The Jackals outshot the Royals in every period, 36-27 overall. Yannick Tifu led the Royals with 5 shots while Jimmy Martin had 6 for Elmira.

The Royals are affiliated with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League while the Jackals are affiliated with the Ottawa Senators and the Anaheim Ducks. The series will shift back to Elmira for games 3-5 Friday, Saturday, and Monday.
