Royals shut out at home by Beast

READING, PA – Goaltender Branden Komm suited up for the Reading Royals for the first time since Jan. 19 and allowed one goal through the first two periods in a 4-0 Reading loss to the Brampton Beast Saturday at Santander Arena. Komm made 20 saves on 23 shots, and Brampton’s Etienne Marcoux stopped all 41 attempts in his second shutout of the season.

The game remained scoreless until David Vallorani scored his 12th point in his last ten games with a wrister that appeared to beat Komm from the left circle with 6:46 remaining in the second period. The goal light never went on and the puck appeared to hit both posts and the crossbar before bouncing out to the ice.

The Royals couldn’t score on 1:53 of a 5-on-3 advantage late in the period, leaving the Beast up, 1-0, headed into the third period.

Reading went 0-for-6 and Brampton went 0-for-3 on the man-advantage.

Jackson Leef made it 2-0 with 9:14 remaining after Artur Tianulin sent a cross-crease pass that Komm stretched but could not connect with at the left post. A minute-and-a-half later, Tianulin added one of his own to make it 3-0, and Austin McEneny scored an empty-netter with 5:22 remaining to seal it at 4-0.

Reading returns to the ice on Monday night at Santander Arena in a rematch against the Beast. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
