Royals score thre unanswered goals to take 2-1 series lead over Nailers

2016KellyCupREADING, Pa – It wasn’t so long ago that the Reading Royals won the ECHL Kelly Cup. Royals fans remember it all too well. One gets the feeling that something special is happening once again. Game three of their playoff series was a continuation of the Royals playoff success so far this season, with balanced scoring by four different players and stellar goaltending from Adam Morrison as Reading defeated the Wheeling Nailers 4-1 to take a 2-1 series lead with game four Thursday night in Reading.

Morrison was in the Royals’ net for the second straight night, making 37 saves on 38 shots. Reading took a 1-0 lead with 1:12 left in the first period but Wheeling tied it at 1-1 56-seconds into the second. The Royals would score three unanswered goals for the win and once again are looking like anything but an 8th seeded team.

Both teams were scoreless on the power play, going a combined 0-7. Wheeling goaltender Brian Foster made 27 saves on 31 shots. Game Five will be Saturday night in Reading.  If the series goes at least six games the series will go back to Wheeling next Monday. If not the Royals will have pulled of yet another major upset in the 2016 playoffs.
