The Reading Royals have had very few major upsets in their brief history. If last night’s game is any indicatory, they just might find out what it is like to have one.
The Royals outgunned and outplayed the Toledo Walleye in Game One of their ECHL playoff series with a 4-3 win in Toledo.
Royals goaltender Martin Ouellette got his first playoff win as a pro making 21 saves. The Royals got goals from four different players. Toledo goalie Jeff Lerg made 30 saves in the loss. The Royals outshot Toledo 27-12 in the first and third periods and outshot the Walleye 34-24 for the game. Reading had a three goal first period and held on for the win.
After Toledo tied the game at 3-3 at the 3:49 mark, but the Royals got the game winner thanks to Cam Reid who was at the low right circle shot high short side, After Lerg made a save the puck came out to Reid who blasted a shot for the game winner with 5:05 left to play.
The Royals came into the series as the 8th seed and Toledo the Eastern Conference’s top seeded team. Game. Game Two is Saturday night in Toledo Reading.
