Royals double their fun, take Game Two

READING, PA – The Reading Royals stared down the barrel of a potential 2-0 series deficit but Ben Gordon’s goal 8:15 into double overtime secured a 5-4 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones, tying the series up at 1-1 heading back to the Buckeye state. The Royals were outshot 42-38 for the game and were outshot in the first and second periods, and a whopping 17-2 in the third period. With the Cyclones down 4-2 heading into the third period, the onslaught overwhelmed the Royals. Mathieu Aubin got the Cyclones back to within one on the power play midway through the third and Scott Lehman scored with only 2:09 left in regulation. The Royals outshot and out-chanced Cincinnati in both overtime periods 21-8. Gordon’s heroics came after a wild scramble in front of the Cyclones net with Gordon eventually settling down a bouncing puck at the right side of the Cyclone net and banged it home for his first professional overtime game winning goal. Both teams scored once on the power play for the night. The win was the Royals second longest overtime game in club history. Games Three and Four are Friday and Saturday nights in Cincinnati. If a fifth game is needed it will be Monday night in Reading. Contact the author at Brian.Jennings@prohockeynews.com Contact the photographer at Lewis.Bleiman@prohockeynews.com
