Rouyn-Noranda bounce back defeating Quebec Huskies goaltender Emond earns first star making 42 saves

QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — Trounced 7-2 by Blainville-Boisbriand Friday night Rouyn-Noranda bounced back to win against Quebec by the score of 4-1. Led by goaltender Zachary Emond earning first star of the game with a solid performance making 42 saves out of Quebec 43 shots, he clearly showed how good he can be and, in near future, the St.Cypren Quebec native could be the next number one netminder in Rouyn-Noranda.

After two-third of the game without goal each team scored their first goal taking advantage of their power play. Quebec opened the scoring on their second power play opportunities. The shot from blue line by left winger Luke Kirwan has been redirected by center Andrew Coxhead beating Huskies goaltender Zachary Emond at 15:47.

Rouyn-Noranda replied with two goals in one minute taking the lead for first time in the game. Beneficiary of their first power play following a penalty to Quebec defenseman Sam Dunn. Huskies defenseman William Cyr beat Quebec goaltender Dereck Baribeau on his left side only 51 seconds after Quebec opening goal.

Rouyn-Noranda took the lead for first time in the game on left defenseman Taylor Ford wrist shot beating Quebec netminder between his pads only 1:00 minutes after Huskies first goal.

Picking up a loose puck in the slot, Rouyn-Noranda left winger Mathieu Boucher scored the insurance goal at 12:13 of the third periods. The Huskies Captain Boucher came back with 25.7 seconds remaining in the game with his second goal of the game scoring visiting team fourth goal in an empty net.

“Losing last night, tonight we came back with better performance, our goaltender had been excellent, the other put lots of pressure on our netminder but he really deserved the first stars. He played a hell of a game.” Rouyn-Noranda head coach David Lapierre about the young netminder Zachary Emond who already won against the same Remparts a year ago.

“He is a really good goaltender and he was really happy to be able to play in a building like here, he was really excited before the game and we are really, really proud for him.” Continued the head coach Lapierre.

Playing in front of parents and friends who came to see him play Zachary Emond has been really solid in front of his net, making 42 saves out of 43 Quebec shots, earning the first stars of the game.

“I knew it wouldn’t be easy at the beginning of the game, Remparts are strong offensively, we knew I should get lots of shots but guys worked really well by making sure most of their shots would come from outside,” answered the first stars of the game Zachary Emond.

“I was prepared for that and my teammates made my job easier keeping the shots outside of the box. It went well overall. Sure I was happy to play here cause around 20 people members of my family and friends came to see me play.” Ended the Huskies netminder who will be eligible for 2018 NHL entry draft.

On Quebec side Quebec head coach gave credit to Rouyn-Noranda goaltender underlining his performance.

“He has been excellent, we face an excellent goaltender, we faced a great goaltender last night, but we heard a lot about this young netminder who is almost ready to be number in our league, we pushed several guys, we challenge some players after the second periods, 43 shots, three games in three nights, against a great team, a proud team. It was hard for them last night, they played a great one today and that is what happened.” Quebec head coach Philippe Boucher said after the game in his post-game press conference.

Quebec next game will be at home next Friday hosting Shawinigan Cataractes.
