Rivermen fall to Ice Gators 5-2 at home

Peoria_Rivermen LogoPEORIA, IL – The Rivermen battled hard but were not able to overcome the Louisiana Ice Gators, suffering a 5-2 loss at the Peoria Civic Center on Saturday night.

Ice Gator’s John Daniels came out ready to throw down in the first period.  His first goal was 10:10 into the first, and was set up by a quick pass from the face-off by Jeremy Boyer that left him a wide open net.  His second goal came soon after at 13:47, where a 2-on-1 set up from Geordie Wudrick gave Daniels plenty of space to deke Rivermen goalie Francois Brassard.

In the second period heat began to stir.  The first fight of the game occured between ex-Rivermen Alex Hudson and Alec Hagaman at 1:38.  The Ice Gators scored on a tic-tac-toe play from Jake Hauswirth to Daniels to Wudrick for the goal at 8:14.

The Rivermen finally scored when Hagaman tapped in a pass from Daniels in the corner at 16:59.  The Ice Gators quickly struck down that momentum when Dylan Hood scored a water bottle knocker with 1.6 left in the period.

The third period is when the powder keg blew.  The Rivermen were able to connect with their own tic-tac-toe play at 5:17 from captain Dan Bremner to Timmy Hall to assistant Adam Stuart.  With 25 seconds left in the game, Daniels was able to get a hat trick empty net goal.

Then all hell broke loose.  A brawl ensued after Tyler Barr cross-checked Alec Hagaman.  The benches emptied, and several penalties were dished out for reasons ranging from the cross-check itself to attempt to injure.
