Rivermen disoriented by Havoc in loss

PEORIA, Ill – Huntsville completely wreaked Havoc upon Carver Arena at the home opener of the Peoria Rivermen on Friday.

Despite the energy of the 4,891 fans in attendance, the Rivermen were only able to Huntsville Havoc logomuster up a single goal.

The Havoc completely dominated a vast majority of the game scoring a total of 6 goals and leaving the Rivermen in the dark.

The first period was matched in score but not at all in puck possession.

The Havoc covered the Rivermen players flawlessly and barely let them touch the puck.

Peoria was lucky to escape the period with a tied game.

The Havoc claimed the first goal of the night early on at 1:31 into the game. A pass from behind the Havoc blue line lead to a two-on-one rush. Michael Piluso passed it over to a wide open Jeff Jones who sunk the puck top shelf.

The Rivermen received their chance to strike back after a hooking call on Sy Nutkavitch of the Havoc. On the latter end of the power play Carl Neilson took a slap shot from the point that redirected off of Dakota Klecha for the Rivermen’s first and only goal of the night.

The remainder of the period was dominated by the Havoc with a couple bursts of momentum from the Rivermen.

In the second period Peoria couldn’t get a word in edge wise before the Havoc had another puck in the net.

The first goal of many by the Havoc was scored at 2:40 into the period. A change up shot from the point by Stuart Stefan floated to the front and gave Nukavitch a wide open net.

The next goal featured Stefan once again.

Another shot from the point by Stefan rebounded off Rivermen goalie Storm Phaneuf. Lou Edcate was camping out just to the left of Phaneuf and the rebound came right to him. He sent it top shelf.

A couple of penalties and a 4 on 4 later ended another Havoc goal.

Edcate came skating up from the right side of the ice, took a shot, and even took his own rebound putting the puck in the back of the net and putting the Havoc up by three.

At this point the Rivermen decided to switch Phaneuf with two-time Canadian gold medalist Shannon Szabados. She couldn’t stop the surging Havoc. Yet another goal came after a tic-tac-toe play between Piluso and Jones. Piluso had a wide open net and sent the puck home.

The final period remained mostly quite with only one goal achieved within the last minute by the Havoc. A shot from Stefan at the top of the slot went post to post and ended in the back of the net. Szabados held her own for a majority of the period .
