RiverKings Take Down Ice Flyers, 4-2

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Ryan Marcuz nets a pair of goals and Tyler Green turns aside 34 shots as the RiverKings take down the Ice Flyers, 4-2, in Pensacola.

After a back and forth first half of the first period, the Pensacola Ice Flyers jumped out to a 1-0 lead 9:17 into the period while on the power play. Jessyko Bernard, who came into Wednesday’s game with two goals in two games against the RiverKings, deflected a Troy Vance wrister past Tyler Green.

The RiverKings took control in the second period with a pair of goals. Donald Olivieri tied the game at one only 3:17 in the period with a blast from the point that got behind Ice Flyers’ goaltender Brian Billet. Later in the period with Olivieri in the penalty box serving a double minor for high sticking, Kristaps Bazevics dove after the puck trying to clear the zone and connected with Brantley Sherwood who sped through the neutral zone and roofed a shot over Billet giving the RiverKings the 2-1 lead.

After the Ice Flyers tied the game in the early stages of the third period, Ryan Marcuz broke the 2-2 tie. Devin Mantha feathered a pass from the goal line to the slot where Marcuz took a shot that beat Billett. Marcuz would add the empty netter with only 8 seconds left to go after Mantha’s attempt pinged off the bottom of the post, and the RiverKings walked away from Pensacola with the victory.
