SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – The Mississippi RiverKings (3-2-0) lost against the Macon Mayhem (3-1-1) Friday night at the Landers Center in a close game four to three. The RiverKings would have multiple leads in the game but failed to hold on to them. The biggest difference for the RiverKings was the special teams, giving up three power play goals to they Mayhem and scoring on only two on six opportunities themselves. A 5 minute major early and the three power play goals given up ended up costing the RiverKings.
Todd Hosmer would get a game misconduct and a five minute major to put the RiverKings down for the second time in the game. The penalty kill would have a great start but eventually give up a goal with just over 30 seconds left on the kill. Momentum would then swing when the RiverKings would get a power play goal from Ryan Marcuz from Devin Mantha and Donald Olivieri. The RiverKings would get a second goal in the period on a great play from Olivieri who would pass it to Lindores and the give it to a streaking Cullen Bradshaw who would lift it passed Garrett Bartus.
The Mayhem would start the scoring once again with a power play goal from Daniel Echeverri from John Siemer and Daniel Gentzler. The RiverKings would take a lead back three to two with a goal off the stick of Mike Moran from Cullen Bradshaw who would get his second point of the night but the Mayhem would come right back with a goal of their own to tie it at three with a goal from Sthis Soumelidis from Dennis Sicard.
Nick Grasso would get the eventual game winner from Colling MacDonald and Jake Trask early on for the Mayhem after a penalty on Olivieri at the end of the second would give the Mayhem a power play to start the third. The RiverKings would fight back the rest of the period with plenty of opportunities but could not get the tying goal passed. There was a moment in the third where it looked like the RiverKings did tie it up in front with a bouncing puck but it was ruled a batted puck in the air by a hand in to the goal and was disallowed. The RiverKings would pull Brad Barone to try and tie the game but could not get a shot past Bartus.
