RiverKings Edged Out by Rivermen 1-0

Peoria, IL –  Redemption. Eric Levine was pulled Friday night after allowing two goals in the first 4:19 of the game (that’s a GAA around 28!).

He found himself back between the pipes for the Peoria Rivermen on Saturday night and this time lasted the whole sixty minutes, pitching his first shutout of the season.

Levine faced 33 shots on goal from the Mississippi Riverkings and stopped them all in a 1-0 victory in front of 3271 holiday merry makers.

His opponent at the other end of the ice, Tyler Green, was no slouch himself.

Green literally stopped every shot he saw.

Twenty-six of Peoria shots on goal slid along the ice or buzzed in through the air.

All were blocked, caught or poked away.

There was one, though, that deflected upwards. It did not fly, it fluttered high, above the glass.

Green looked toward Nick Miglio, who’d attempted a shot, but the puck was nowhere to be seen.

It was, instead, aloft.

It fell slowly, softly to the ice just behind Green and across the goal line – Green’s arms outstretched, seeking guidance, unaware of the red light behind him.

Miglio’s deflected puck at 9:22 of the second period was assisted by Kevin Patterson, Brandon Rumble, and the hockey gods.

The Riverkings had five chances on the power play and the Rivermen three, all for naught due to the excellent goaltending at both ends.

NOTES: Earlier in the day, the City of Peoria named a portion of the street leading to the Peoria Civic Center after the late Bruce Saurs. It was Saurs who saved professional hockey in Peoria several times, owning all or part of the team through years in the IHL, EHL, AHL, and then bringing inthe SPHL when the St. Louis Blues pulled their affiliation without notice.
