ROANOKE, Virginia – Dillan Fox netted two more goals, and Shane Bennett added his third in two nights as the RiverKings rolled over the Rail Yard Dawgs, 6-2.
It didn’t take long for the RiverKings to get on the scoreboard, only 27 seconds into the game. On their first break into the offensive zone of the game, Kristaps Bazevics wristed a shot from the point which was expertly deflected by Ryan Marcuz past Rail
Yard goalie Matt Zenzola.
A little over seven minutes later, with a delayed call and the extra attacker, Shane Bennett knew where to go. He sat on the right side of the post and slammed home the goal with 7:53 showing on the first-period goal. With only 1:05 left to go, Vojtech Zemlicka blasted a point shot by Zenzola for his first goal as a RiverKing in just his second game, RiverKings took a 3-0 lead into the intermission.
The second period would come and go without any scoring, but Roanoke finally got on the board in the third period thanks to John Gustaffsson who deked his way around Tyler Green and hit the empty net. The RiverKings would close down any hope for the Rail Yard Dawgs when Devin Mantha scored on the power play, followed up shortly by Dillan Fox and his first of the night. Pijus Rulevicius fed a centering pass to Fox who netted the puck while falling down and giving the RiverKings a 4-1 lead. Fox got his name on the scoreboard for a second time only moments later, when on the penalty-kill, he stole the puck and scored fired it past Zenola giving the RiverKings a 6-1 lead.
The Rail Yard Dawgs would add one more courtesy of their captain Nick Schneider to make the game 6-2.
