River Dragons Swept By Rock Lobsters

Columbus, GA – The Athens Rock Lobsters swept the Columbus River Dragons at the Columbus Civic Center in regulation Saturday night, 6-2.

Columbus appeared to match the energy the Athens brought on the road with them during the first period. Although Gleb Bandurkin struck first in the opening frame for Athens, Ryan Hunter evened the score for the River Dragons on a power play.

The first period ended tied, 1-1.

In the second period, Eric Neiley and Jesse Lowell tacked on two for the Rock Lobsters. Ryan Hunter kept the River Dragons hopes alive, scoring on an assist by Tyler Barrow.

The second period concluded with Athens ahead, 3-2.

The final twenty minutes of regulation came with one goal by Carter Shinkaruk and two goals by Kayson Gallant, cementing the win for the Rock Lobsters in regulation, 6-2.

Carter McPhail made 35 saves on a total of 37 shots, earning a 94.59 SV% for the Athens Rock Lobsters.

Tyler Barrow has marked a total of 9 points over the past five games for Columbus.

Although the River Dragons didn’t secure the win, they did pull a W for kids in their local community. Tonight’s “Teddy Bear Toss” will benefit hundreds, perhaps thousands, of children in the Columbus, GA area.

The Rock Lobsters will play next at home, defending against the Pee Dee Ice Cats on Thursday, while the River Dragons prepare to hit the road to meet the Twin City Thunderbirds on Friday, December 10th.
