Columbus, GA – The Motor City Rockers waged war against the Columbus River Dragons, who played at home in the Columbus Civic Center in front of 2,068 fans looking on.
The first period quickly displayed how determined both teams were to win the final game in this weekend’s three-game series. The River Dragons, having won the previous two games, set out to achieve the three-game sweep against a tough and formidable opponent.
The first period saw both teams engage in a pretty even matchup. The visiting Rockers and the River Dragons both gave their best efforts to execute fast puck movement, heavy pressure, and intensely physical gameplay, but Motor City struck first at 13:57 with a goal by Declan Conway.
At 17:34, Avery Smith was penalized for slashing, allowing Josh Pietrantonio to score the PPG at 18:55.
Pietrantonio tallied his second of the night at 1:29 in the second period on a well-laid pass by Alexander Jmaeff.
TJ Sneath answered back for the Rockers at 9:28, tying the game back up at 2-2.
The third period was a slugfest. Motor City and Columbus put it all on the line, going tit for tat on nearly every level. TJ Sneath put the Rockers ahead 3-2 at 6:23 on an assist by Lane King, hushing the Columbus crowd.
Ryan Rotondi was penalized for interference, allowing Pietrantonio the opportunity to hit the hat trick on a power play at 13:54, evening the score against a hard-pressing Motor City defense.
The River Dragons continued to press hard on a relentless Motor City attack, and Ryan Hunter managed to achieve the game-winning goal at 19:02 from a rebound laid down by Kyle Moore.
The game ended with the River Dragons achieving their 6-game winning streak, 4-3.
Trevor Babin put up an amazing effort, achieving an impressive .921 SV% with 47 saves against a total of 51 River Dragons’ shots on goal.
Justin MacDonald finished the game with 3 assists to continue his scoring streak, extending the league record to 37 games with a total of 34 goals and 53 assists for 87 points.
Ryan Hunter extended his personal point streak to 10 games. Kyle Moore has played eight straight games with a point.
Motor City will return home, where the look forward to playing the River Dragons at home Friday, following the River Dragons’ game against the Prowlers in Port Huron, Michigan on Thursday.
